Customer Care Executive 'not so caring'


These days we often get calls on our mobile phones and landline phones from the call centres who want to promote something or the other. At least once in a day you will get a call and you will hear a sweet voice of a girl talking to you in the most polite manner possible. After addressing you respectfully, she will start explaining you the policy or offer she wants you to take up. The girl would make her best efforts to crack the deal with you, which would actually a ‘great deal’ for her. They are known for their sweet voice, polite way of talking and patient nature because they deal with all kind of customers, but this is just when they want to sell or promote something. The things often turn around drastically when you are the one who wants to enquire something or get things mended.

This is one of my recent experience I would like to share with all my net friends. There was a girl who was calling me from the India Today Book Club call centre almost everyday because she wanted me to take up a membership of the magazine. I told her that I would let her know after discussing it with my parents. By the time I decided that I would take up the membership, she was offering me a free pack of 16-cds of Indian classical music. Though I did not take up the membership for the sake of free gifts, but I was really excited about the Indian classical CDs composed by one of my most favourite musicians. The sweet voiced girl happily and quickly sent me the forms and everything that were required to complete all the formalities for taking up the membership, everything was done within nanoseconds unless the payment was made.
But when it came to the 16 cds, we had to wait for more than 3 months, though it was supposed to be delivered within 20 days. After 20 days, we called up to the same customer care executive and she told us to call after two days. When we called up after two days, our calls were not attended. Then we tried to call from some other number,eventually the call was accepted. Fortunately or unfortunately, we got the same girl on the line who cracked the deal with us. But to our surprise, the same sweet, polite girl now is talking in a very rude manner, telling us that why are you so impatient, if you are supposed to get the free gift, you will get it, no one is going to take it away from you.
Though we got the ‘free gift’ within three months, but the most appalling thing was how the same customer-care-executive who was so sweet and nice to us turns out to be so ill-mannered to us when the customer actually needs care. Is it just because when we ask them for assistance, it is actually doing no good to them just as it does when we buy something from them? Friends, do let me know your views and suggestion about it!
